What is the Mind?

Is it a place where you think? Is it a place where you have conversations with yourself? Is it like your coach who helps you and pushes you to your goals? Or is it a cage you’re trapped in and can’t get out?

Many of us believe that ‘it’s all about the mind,’ but very few do something about it. I say that your mind is one of the most potent weapons you can have, and no one can control it but you.

Let me share a small personal anecdote:

One day a young student’s parent at Martial Art Dojo asked me, ‘which body part or muscle does this Martial Art help you train?’. I asked the boy’s father to look at what was written on the top of the Martial Art logo and then pointed to my head and said ‘The Mind.’ We help to train and strengthen the mind before any other training is initiated. You can have the strongest muscles or a set of six-pack abs, but if your mind isn’t strong enough !! Then you sure cannot last long in training or on the streets.

I get pretty nervous before an MMA fight, but I aim not to show it in front of my opponent. That’s when I tell my mind to stay calm and play a few mind games with my opponent before getting into the octagon. Once you can trick your opponent’s mind into thinking that you are not nervous and not scared of him/her!! That’s most of the work done even before entering the octagon, and this is what I faced a few months ago, which did lead me to victory in just 00:25 seconds of round No.1. Having this mindset and attitude will help in the octagon and life when it keeps throwing unexpected situations at you.

Your mind is like a vision board

And those visions will control your actions every day. If you wish to be a successful business person, then wake up early, write down what needs to be done in the day and get it done.

If you want to be a gold medallist in a sport, sleep on time, eat healthily and train hard. I make my own rules and follow them wherever I go. Things like society, peer pressure, jealous people will shake me, but having my mind abide by my rules will keep me on track. Your actions and visions go hand in hand. Once they work together, you will see results.

Rather than wasting your time on gossip and looking at other’s success or social life, focus on yourself. Such vialing away of time isn’t going to get you anywhere. Tell your mind to filter out all the crap and extra weight we put on ourselves because of social media or society and focus on the priorities.

I say that instead of following a trend, become one so that people follow the correct footsteps to success and be a better version of themselves every day.

It’s all about the mind and how you look at things.
